MELODIE OLSEN WOOD
1949 ~ 2015
On a warm, sunny day in February, our spunky, feisty, independent, loving mother, wife, sister and grandma left this life to be reunited with her mother, father and loved ones whom she has missed so dearly.
Melodie, or for those who knew her best "Melo," passed away peacefully on February 14, 2015 at 12:24 a.m. in Payson, surrounded by her devoted husband of 45 years and her loving children. Melodie's life revolved around her beautiful family and most of all, her five grandkids of whom she was so proud and bragged about constantly.
Melodie was born February 18, 1949, to Douglas and Geraldine Olsen. She was the bossiest of five children and grew up in Santaquin, Utah. She graduated Spanish Fork High School in 1967 and attended Ricks College, Idaho. She married her lifelong sweetheart, David Wood, on February 7, 1970. Melodie took over raising her four brothers and one young sister before starting a family of her own. She and David were blessed with a son and a daughter, who were the light of her life, until ... the grandkids came!!!
Anyone who knew Melodie knew that her door was always open, and she was always good for a hug. You couldn't tell her what to do, or hold a baby if she was around! No holiday went by that wasn't decorated, or a flowerbed that went empty in the summer. If asked why she did it all, her answer was always the same - for the kids! She loved her little job at the Salem Chevron, where she made lifelong friends. She loved helping all the regulars and catching up on the latest gossip.
Dave and Melo, Melo and Dave. No matter the order, they were always side by side. Hunting, farming, camping, riding everything from horses to 4-wheelers; attending dance recitals, wrestling matches, and baseball games - the two of them did it together. She was the toughest, kindest best friend Dave could have asked for. She was small in stature but enormous in life. She touched the lives of everyone she met.
Melodie is survived by her husband, David Wood, of Salem; son Brett (Kendra) Wood, of Salem; daughter, Kimberli Martinson, of Salem; her brothers: Terry (Carol) Olsen, Spanish Fork, Shaun (Vicky) Olsen, Pahrump, Nevada; Chet (Karen) Olsen, Spanish Fork; and her sister, Jerilyn (Dave) Bona, Springville; She is also survived by her beloved 5 grandkids.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Chapel at 1129 South 250 West, Salem, Utah. Visitations for family and friends will be Tuesday evening, February 17, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork; and also on Wednesday morning at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at Salem City Cemetery.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the staff at Mountain View Hospital ICU for their exceptional care of our wife, mother and grandma.
