NAOMI CANNON PETERSON
With grace and dignity, Naomi Cannon Peterson slipped quietly and peacefully from this life on the afternoon of June 2, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.
Naomi was born on April 4, 1923 to Stephen and Eva Naomi Cole Cannon in Mammoth, Juab, Utah. The family later moved to Payson. She attended public schools in Payson. She worked at the Payson Hospital before becoming a full-time mom and raising her family.
Naomi married Glen Albert Peterson on February 17, 1942 in Provo, Utah. She lived for time in California while Glen served in the Navy during World War II.
After the war ended Glen and Naomi returned to Payson where they purchased a small house which they expanded and renovated many times over the years as they created a home for themselves and their family.
Naomi and Glen loved to fish, camp, and take vacation trips with the family. They cultivated a large garden which they were very proud of and which provided them with beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables. One could not visit Glen and Naomi without leaving with armfuls of squash, tomatoes, corn, peppers, parsnips, apricots or rhubarb. Naomi's bottled dill pickles were legendary.
Naomi especially loved children and worked for many years as a teacher in the Primary program of the LDS church. Naomi and Glen were sealed for eternity in the Provo LDS temple. Years later, after she had raised her family and her husband Glen had passed away (1992) , she worked for many years as a Temple worker in the Provo, Utah Temple.
Naomi was a wonderful, devoted partner to her husband, a loving, caring mother to her children, and the best Grandma ever. She had a quiet, reserved demeanor and never spoke a harsh word to or about anyone. She was an exceptional, beautiful and dignified lady.
Naomi is survived by two daughters and one son: Diane (Richard) Rhees, Taylorsville, UT; Glenna (Jim) Oviatt, Tooele, UT; Neil Glen (Darlene) Peterson, Orem, UT; 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, Blaine Kenneth, Russel Lamar and Elden Eugene, and a sister, Charlene.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 7th at 12:00 noon at the Salem City Cemetery. Friends and Relatives may call at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Friday, 6:00-8:00 or Saturday, 10:00-11:30 am. Burial will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
The family would like to express special appreciation to the staff of Summerfield Manor for the excellent care and loving support they have given Naomi over the last few years.
