JUDITH ANNE SCHOLL

April 24, 1944 – December 11, 2014
Judith Anne Jones was born in St. George, UT on April 24, 1944 to Adolia Lee and Mary Faris Jones. She was the second of five children and spent her childhood in St. George, UT and Bunkerville, NV. She grew up on a dairy farm where she learned a strong work ethic which stayed with her throughout her life.
Judy graduated from Virgin Valley High School and then continued her education at the College of Southern Utah and obtained a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. While attending college, she met her sweetheart Glen Scholl. They were married on September 10, 1965 in the St. George Temple and were blessed with seven children.
Judy loved working with children. While raising her own children, Judy worked as a childcare provider, taking additional children into her home. She also worked as an elementary school teacher for 20 years teaching both first and second grade. She had a great talent for teaching children how to read.
Judy enjoyed sewing and quilting. She especially enjoyed quilting bed spreads for her children and baby blankets for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed preserving fruit, growing roses, and keeping a weed free yard.
Judy retired from teaching to care for her aging parents in Ivins, Utah. She later moved to Thatcher, AZ to be near a daughter during her fight with cancer. She has also lived in Bullhead City and Globe, AZ.
During her retirement years, she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, working as a substitute teacher, and riding her bicycle around the neighborhood. She stayed active and productive as long as her Alzheimer’s permitted.
Judy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many positions in the Primary, Relief Society, Sunday School, and Young Women’s organizations. She will be remembered for her faith in her Savior, her love of family, her service, and kindness to others.  She will also be remembered for her quick wit, her jokes, her sense of humor, her smile, and the twinkling in her eyes.
Judy is survived by her husband Glen Scholl of Payson, UT; two daughters: Marilee Eatough of Redmond, WA; Laura Scholl of Orem, UT; four sons: Douglas Scholl of Kingman, AZ; Arlen Scholl of Cheyenne, WY; Wesley Scholl of Payson, UT; and Keith Scholl of Kearns, UT; and by 24 grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters: Sharon Tueller of Reno, NV; Ella Moss of Sparks, NV; Laura Eliason of Deseret, UT; and one brother Ivan Jones of Sutter Creek, CA. She is preceded in death by her daughter Glena Scholl Watson.
The family expresses their appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Mountain Air Assisted Living and A Plus Home Care and Hospice for their kind and gentle care as they assisted Judy with her health challenges.
Funeral services will be held to celebrate Judy’s life on Monday, December 15 at 11:00.am at the Brookside 2nd Ward Chapel at 952 West 1580 South in Payson, UT. The family will receive friends 9:45-10:45 am prior to services in the Relief Society Room.  Concluding services will be in the Payson City Cemetery. Arrangements by Walker Mortuary

BETH EWELL SCOTT

BETH EWELL SCOTT

Beth Ewell Scott passed away peacefully at home on February 26, 2014.  Beth was born July 28, 1929, in Genola, Utah.  She was the thirteenth of fourteen children.  She was a graduate of Payson High School.
Beth met her husband, Keith Scott, at the Ute Stampede in Nephi, and was married later that year, on November 20, 1949.  She and her husband lived in California, Nevada, and Utah.
Beth had many interests, which included: camping, hunting, fishing, and traveling.  She loved to explore any backroad or trail in the mountains, desert, or countryside.  She drove a school bus for many years in Las Vegas, where she settled with her family in the late 1960s.  Late in life, she incorporated an adult daughter, Ilene Lish of Deweyville, Utah, as part of her family.
Beth is survived by her three children, a sister, Udean Camp, brother, Arlin Ewell, and younger sister, Shirley Jackman, as well as 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
A viewing for Beth will be held on Friday, March 7, at Bunker Brothers Mortuary in Las Vegas. Services will be held at 11:00 AM in the Walnut and Carey Chapel, in Las Vegas.



STERLING HAL SHULER

Sterling Hal Shuler passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 18, 2015 at his home in Elk Ridge. Hal was born August 9, 1927 in Payson, Utah to Erma Nell Wightman and David Shuler, growing up in the Payson area. He graduated from Payson High School with the class of 1945.  After high school, he joined the Navy on June 26, 1945 serving in the Philippine Islands. Upon his return home Hal married Carolyn Davis on August 25, 1948 in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple. They built their first home on the Goosenest Ranch where he loved farming all of his adult life.  The ranch later became Elk Ridge City where he served as a City Councilman for many years.
Throughout his life Hal served faithfully in the LDS church in many positions including bishoprics, high councils and multiple scouting positions. He was a fantastic school teacher and enriched the lives of thousands of elementary and middle school students in Goshen and the Payson area. In high school he was actively involved in sports, especially basketball where he perfected the 3 point shot even before it existed. He played on and sponsored Payson City Basketball teams for many years.  He loved BYU football and basketball and was a longtime supporter. Above all, he loved his family.  
Hal was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his parents, and brothers Howard, Marvel, Keith (Bish), Russell and sisters and Helen Gardner McNabb, Geraldine Gardner Wittwer.  He is survived by his children,  Karl (Sharon) Shuler, Wendy (Lee) Pope, Jay (Kate) Shuler, David Shuler, Sarah Shuler, Brad (Melissa) Shuler, a daughter-in-law Terri, 26 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. 
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Elk Ridge Stake Center, 185 East Ridge View Drive, Elk Ridge, Utah (East end of Goosenest Drive).  A viewing will be held at the  Elk Ridge 6th Ward Chapel, 450 North Elk Ridge Drive, Friday, 6-8:00 p.m. An additonal viewing on Saturday will be in the Elk Ridge Stake Center before the service, 11:45 am -12:45pm.  Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by the American Legion, Dist. #4.

Payson, Utah
Cleva McInelly Swindle, 81, passed away quietly on, December 12, 2014, at her home in Payson. She was born August 27, 1933, in Escalante to Loral Jeston and Mary Ellen Heaps McInelly. She married Max Emil Swindle, June 27, 1956 in Mesquite, NV. The marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple.
She loved flowers and enjoyed being in her garden. She never let Max till and water the yard - it was her job. Later, when she couldn’t do the yard the way she liked, the grandkids would come to help, with her supervision. She loved the time she was able to spend with them. Cleva also enjoyed sewing and cooking meals for family and close friends.
She was an active member of the LDS Church where she served diligently in the Relief Society.
She is survived by her mother, of Richfield; husband Max of Payson; children: Erwin Moosman, Escalante; Wade Moosman, Levan; Robert Swindle, Victorville, CA; Ellen (Jeff) Kraus, Lake Havasu, AZ; and Wendy (Lance) Tanner, Santaquin; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings: Donna Rae Barker, Monroe; Douglas (Jeri) McInelly, Richfield; Lynn (Garna) McInelly, Beaver; Irene (Louis) Brown, Lindon; and Valaree (Tobe) Davies, Aurora.
She is preceded in death by a son, Scott Swindle; her father and step-father, Hyrum Coleman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, in the Payson 16th LDS Ward Chapel, 650 West 800 South in Payson, where friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 to 10:30. EVELYN STEELE


Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great granny “Goose” returned to her Heavenly Father and parents and sons on October 6, 2014.
She spent the last seven years of her life at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River, Wyoming where she slipped away peacefully in her sleep.  She was loved by everyone there. 
Mom was born at 6:00 am October 19, 1930 to William & Mary Evelyn (Eva) Steele.  She was the 8th child of ten children.
Mom loved working and helping her father on the family farm pitching hay and milking cows.  She often talked of how she and brother and sisters would have to carry water from a spring so her mother could have water in the house.  She also worked several other jobs.
Mom loved to fish and enjoyed going with her father many times.  One of her biggest joys was playing bingo.
Mom loved children unconditionally and while not having her own six children for a while, she devoted her time in the church nurseries and also being a foster grandparent for the Child Development Center in Mountain View, Wyoming.  The children loved her back unconditionally.
Mom had six children; Nancy E, Valerie M, William f “Billy”, Daniel l “Danny”, Dale L, and Jeffrey L. She had 14 grandchildren; Forrest, Jason, Britnie, Stephanie, Aaron, Kati, Maranda, Harrison, Liz Lee, Brian Sharp, Tom Sharp, Melisa, Scott and Travis.  She had 41 great grandkids and one great-great grandson.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Emma Lavon Turner, Eudora Davis, Lillian, and Florence Orgill; brothers Thomas Ralph Woodland and Arnal Steele; two sons, William France Adams “Billy”, and Daniel Lamonin Adams “Danny” Sawyer; one great granddaughter Kali Borecky.
Viewing will be held at the Lyman, Wyoming LDS Stake Center in Urie on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 6-8 pm.  A viewing will also be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 12 – 12:40 pm at the Goshen, Utah LDS Chapel, 70 South Center St, Goshen, UT, with graveside services and burial to follow at the Goshen Cemetery at 1 pm.

JALYNN STEELE

Jalynn Steele, age 58 of Santaquin, passed away October 4, 2014.  He was born February 15, 1956 in Nephi to Arlyn and Janice Elaine Garrett Steele. 
Jalynn worked as a general contractor and was a skilled finish carpenter.  He has left his mark in many homes in the area.  He enjoyed sports and hunting and especially loved cheering for the Yankees.
He is survived by his mother, Janice, of Santaquin; a sister, Jana (Marty) Vincent of Payson, and brothers, Rick (Trudy) Steele, Kelly (Mercell) Steele, both of Santaquin; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Arlyn.

Dr. Phillip H. Spencer
Dr. Phillip Harold Spencer, 82, of Tooele, Utah passed away peacefully on March 4, 2014, following a period of declining health. Phil, the son of Alice Clayson and Francis Harold Spencer, was born in 1931 in Payson, Utah. There he spent his formative years, gaining local recognition as an outstanding musician.
After completing high school, Phil attended Brigham Young University for a year. As the Korean War began to escalate in 1950, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a musician aboard the U.S.S. Antietam. In 1953, Phil was married to Mary Karen Hiatt (also of Payson) in the Salt Lake Temple. After completing his military service, Phil went on to graduate from BYU. He then attended Dental school at Northwestern University, where he graduated with Cum Laude honors. In 1960 he established a dental practice in Tooele, Utah - a career he enjoyed for nearly 35 years. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Phil served in many different callings including bishop of the Tooele 4th Ward and member of the Tooele Stake presidency. He is best known, however, for his years of dedicated service to the Boy Scouts of America, for which he received recognition by the Great Salt Lake Council as a prestigious Silver Beaver in 1980. His life was a shining example of love and service to others, and he will be greatly missed by his family and community.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sister Barbara Willis. He is survived by his wife Karen; by his three sons Stephen (Wendy), Kirk (Susan), and David (Kristi); by two siblings: John Spencer and Miriam Knight; by 11 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
A public viewing will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2014, beginning at 6:00 pm at the Tate Mortuary (110 South Main Street, Tooele, Utah), where the family will be greeting friends and relatives. A memorial service will be held at the Tooele South Stake Center (1025 Southwest Drive, Tooele, Utah) on Monday, March 10, 2014, beginning with a brief viewing at 9:00 am followed by a general service at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at the Payson City Cemetery later that afternoon.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Harmony Home Health and Hospice Care for their compassion and service during Phil's final years of declining health. We also wish to thank the members of the Tooele 13th Ward for their countless acts of kindness during this time.
