WANDA ELAINE SCHWAB ROBBINS

Wanda Elaine Schwab Robbins passed away peacefully at the Bee Hive Homes of Perry on May 19, 2014. She was born in Payson, Utah on November 15, 1926 to Alice Sofia Mickelson and Henry Carl Schwab. Three more sisters joined the family; Donna, Colleen, and Marlene, who died as an infant. The three sisters were best friends throughout their entire lives.
Elaine lived for a few years in Dividend and attended schools in Payson. She marched in parades with the school band and played her clarinet with the Payson City Band for the summer concerts as a teenager.
Elaine married her sweetheart Lester Robbins in Nephi, Utah on March 29, 1944. Before they married she had cared for Lester’s two children: Tamra and David. She had grown to love them and missed them when they moved away. Elaine and Lester were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 27, 1946. Lester & Elaine enjoyed dancing together and were the King and Queen of the Gold and Green Ball in 1952.
Elaine toiled diligently with her husband, working on the Mt. Nebo Fox Farm and in their orchards growing fruit. One of the happiest days of her life was the hot August day they adopted their son, Carl in 1955. Elaine was a wonderful mother who shared her abundant love with many nieces, nephews and friends. In later years after selling their farm, Lester and Elaine enjoyed traveling abroad. They also had many enjoyable trips with her sisters and their husbands. Lester and Elaine celebrated 67 years of marriage before Lester died at age 97 in 2011.
Elaine served diligently in many different callings in the LDS church, including Primary, Relief Society, MIA, Stake Young Women’s President, and 18 years of service in the Provo Temple. She received the Golden Gleaner Award and the Young Womanhood Recognition Award. She helped with the founding of the KoHoLoWo girl’s camp and she was thrilled to be honored at a recent ceremony for her many years of service to the young women in the Nebo/Payson Stake.
Embroidery, crocheting, & quilting were hobbies that she enjoyed. Elaine’s passion for genealogy started at age 14. She encouraged her Grandpa Schwab to write his life story, and compiled numerous histories and photos. Her work is now being shared on familysearch.org. She spent many years as a volunteer in the Regional Family History Center. She loved showing children her dollhouse that on the outside was a replica of the old Payson City Hospital.
Elaine and Lester belonged to a Payson dinner group that met together for many years, and she loved to cook and entertain. She worked in various jobs throughout the community including head baker at Peteetneet School, clerk at Payson Furniture, Forsey’s. V&S Variety, and True Value. In 1991 a man robbed the store and held the gun against her cheek, demanding the cash from her register, but she faced her fears and kept working.
She is survived by her children, Tamra (Dale) Jones of Lehi, Utah; David (LaJune) Robbins of Henderson, Nevada; and Carl (Mina) Robbins of Pleasant View, Utah; 21 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Chancellor Gardens of Clearfield, Bee Hive Homes of Perry, and Encompass Hospice for their loving care and devotion.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Payson 19th Ward chapel located at 482 West 1400 South, with visitation from 9:30 -10:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Payson City Cemetery.
